Quake 4 Retail Patch v. 1.0.5 Beta - File Description

Description:
A BETA update for QUAKE 4 is now available. This update is recommended for Windows users with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) enabled processors, multiple processors, or systems with a dual core processor.

The update is also required for Windows and Linux server admins as it addresses a recently identified problem with servers left unoccupied for very long periods of time (these servers will appear to be operating normally, but will crash clients that attempt to connect to them). This update will bring any previous version of the game (1.0.0 or 1.0.4) up to date and will not affect pure server, PunkBuster compatibility or protocol consistency.

id Software and Raven have worked with Intel to dramatically improve QUAKE 4 performance on systems with HT Technology, multiple processors, or dual core processors. Players who have a system with one of these configurations will notice performance gains in QUAKE 4 of anywhere from 25% - 87% depending on processor type. If you do not know whether or not you have a multi-processor, dual core, or HT Technology enabled system, please see the ReadMe file for simple instructions on checking your system. Please use the form at http://www.idsoftware.com/bugs/ to report any issues you find with the 1.0.5 update.

Finally, although they've released only small (but critical) updates to QUAKE 4 so far, they are working on a much broader update for release early next year, and also have a couple of multiplayer map packs currently being tested for release in the near future. Stay tuned.

Now that's more like it! Although Quake 4 runs nice in 1024 * 786 + Medium Detail with no anti aliasing, I'll welcome anything that gives extra performance.

I got a soundblaster live! 24-bit external. I got some sound problems that the 1.0.4 patch seemed to fix. But when I loaded the game up today, they were back. My sound just goes down to were I can barely hear it, then goes back to normal. Kinda annoying.

i have that same problem too, i think it's just normal, it's especially when you shoot with machinegun, i have Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty btw.

My very new computer sucked dogs balls playing Q4, yet my older one with a radeon 9600 xt ran it twice as fast.
I wonder if this'll... help...

To Scorian, what do ya got on the new comp? Cuz I think the video adaptor that came with your new comp may not be compatible with Q4's graphics. You see, all video cards and adaptors have what you would call "gl progs", or extensions that allow your video card to render 3D graphics on the monitor.

Certain video adaptors don't use the same gl progs that either an ATI or NVIDIA card uses. So what I'm trying to say is you mght be better off to either switch your Radeon 9600 over to the new comp, or buy a new card altogther. I think you might want to upgrade you vid card to at least a Radeon 9700 or GeForce 3/Ti series card. That's the minimum requirements for Q4.

But if your 9600 works ok with Q4, then I guess it's alright. I use an ALL-IN-WONDER 9800 series card, and Q4 plays friggin' sweet Rock

! Of course, you're problem might also be insufficient RAM to play Q4 on the new comp, too. But as I don't know your systems specs, I can't really say a whole lot.
